From the Desk of the Mayor
Over the past several years, the City has invested in revitalizing our downtown area. We have rebuilt the town square, bought and remodeled the old Heitker Shoe Store which is now the Alreddy Café, improved the parking lots, and bought and demolished the Simpson building.
The City owns the property and building where the Act I Theater sits. I have presented to Council three options for the future of that site: sell it to a private developer, demolish the building and create a green space, or transfer the deed to the Sharonville Fine Arts Council and partner with them on the development of a fine arts/theater facility.
The Sharonville Fine Arts Council has received support from the Hamilton County Development Company, Sharonville’s Planning Director, and many downtown merchants, as well as the Sharonville Kiwanis, Princeton City School District, the Sharonville Senior Citizens Club, and the Federated Woman’s Club, just to name a few. They all believe, as I do, that this project will have a huge impact on our downtown area and be a boost to the economy and the revitalization of the area.
Grants are available to the SFAC if they own the building, volunteered skilled labor is available from our local community, and further assistance has been offered by local business owners. Board members are Robin Kurlas (Red Squirrel Restaurant), Jim Hall (Artist in Residence), Gayla Price (PNC Bank), Sue Koetz (Sharonville Recreation Director), and Janey Kattelman (Sharonville Councilmember).
These people are passionate about promoting arts in our community. Please feel free to contact them for additional information.
